KU Endowment provides KU $119.3 million in record financial support

KU Endowment provided an all-time high of $119.3 million in direct financial support for the University of Kansas in fiscal 2012, which ended June 30. This represents a 6 percent increase over the previous fiscal year.

The funds provided support for students, faculty, programs, facilities and patient care across all of KU’s campuses and The University of Kansas Hospital. The total included $39.1 million for programs, $35.3 million for faculty, $30.2 million for students and $14.7 million for facilities and technology.

Dale Seuferling, president of KU Endowment, said the record support reflects the generosity of KU alumni and friends. “The support we provide benefits people in Kansas and beyond,” said Seuferling. “The evidence of our donors’ generosity is palpable in all the students, faculty and patients whose dreams are fulfilled and lives are transformed.”

In fiscal 2012, more than 6,900 students received financial assistance from KU Endowment funds, which support virtually all scholarships and fellowships at KU. Private giving provided more than 88 percent of total funding for KU’s distinguished professors, and enabled faculty research and travel to conferences. Moreover, it provided support for community outreach programs, and for acquiring library and museum holdings.

At The University of Kansas Hospital, which is a partner in philanthropy with KU Endowment, private support funded new facilities and technology for patient care; enabled staff development; and established new programs and educational resources. Support from private donors was instrumental in helping The University of Kansas Cancer Center achieve designation as a National Cancer Institute center in 2012. Donors funded life-saving research, helped recruit cancer scientists and provided facilities for clinical trials.

KU Endowment is the independent, nonprofit organization serving as the official fundraising and fund-management organization for KU. Founded in 1891, KU Endowment was the first foundation of its kind at a U.S. public university.
