Jayhawk Faithful FAQ

What is Jayhawk Faithful?
Jayhawk Faithful recognizes and thanks donors who have given gifts of any size to the University of Kansas for two consecutive years or more.

Why was Jayhawk Faithful established?
Jayhawk Faithful was established to recognize our donors who give on a consecutive, yearly basis because they are extremely valuable to the success of the University of Kansas (regardless of the gift amount). The promotional pieces provided to the members are meant to be displayed and to encourage others to give in a consistent manner to KU.

How do I become a member?
Give a gift of any size to the University of Kansas at least once each academic year (July 1-June 30), without missing any academic years.

Do I need to give a certain amount every year to be in Jayhawk Faithful?
No. Gifts of any size are counted, as long as at least one gift is sent in per academic year (July 1-June 30).

Do I need to designate my gifts to a certain area to qualify for Jayhawk Faithful?
Gifts can be made to any area of the University of Kansas.

Is this program only for KU alumni?
No.  Jayhawk Faithful celebrates all consecutive-giving donors, alumni, staff, faculty, parents, students and friends of KU.

What types of donor recognition pieces do members receive?
All Jayhawk Faithful members receive an annual donor appreciation mail piece and Jayhawk Faithful window decal. In addition, donors achieving a milestone consecutive-giving year (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 or 40) also receive an exclusive KU promotional piece, such as a Jayhawk lapel pin or a KU collector's coin.

Will I be given credit for giving years prior to 2018 when Jayhawk Faithful was launched?
Yes. Our electronic records go back to gifts made in 1978. We understand that your giving may extend past 1978, but we are unable to electronically track individual gifts before this time.

How are my years of loyalty calculated?
Jayhawk Faithful giving is based on household giving. The number of consecutive-giving years is determined by the person in the household with the longest years of uninterrupted consecutive giving to the University of Kansas. The donors can be alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff or friends of KU.

Does it matter when I make my gift during the year?
Yes. In order for membership to be renewed, a donor must make a gift at least once per academic year. Our academic year is July 1-June 30. For example, in order for a donor to be considered a “two-year consecutive donor,” he or she must have made at least one gift to KU in the timeframe of 7/1/16-6/30/17 and then have also made at least one gift to KU in the timeframe of 7/1/17-6/30/18. This would mean that the donor gave consecutive gifts in the 2016-2017 academic year and the 2017-2018 academic year.

What if I missed a year of giving?
Jayhawk Faithful is meant to inspire sustained consecutive giving. While we do believe every gift makes a difference at KU, at least one gift per academic year (July 1-June 30) must be made in order to maintain Jayhawk Faithful membership.

Can I buy back years of giving?
Because our goal is to celebrate and inspire sustained consecutive giving, we do not offer a “buy back system” for years in which donors did not give to the university.

If I’m a member of Jayhawk Faithful, can I also be a member of the other giving societies at KU?
Yes. You can be in multiple donor societies at the same time.

Do gifts and pledges count toward my recognition?
Gifts and pledge payments, not pledges, count toward Jayhawk Faithful membership.

I have given for 40 consecutive years. Do I need to keep giving in order to maintain recognition in Jayhawk Faithful?
Yes. Jayhawk Faithful membership must be renewed by giving a gift of any amount to the university each academic year (July 1 through June 30) in order for donors to be recognized through the program.

How soon after making my gift will I receive my Jayhawk Faithful donor recognition pieces?
Jayhawk Faithful donor recognition mailings are sent out twice per academic year, once in the spring and once in the summer. The spring mailing will cover all gifts processed from the first half of the academic year. The summer mailing will cover all gifts processed from the second half of the academic year.
