Scholarships help KU attract the students with the most academic promise, as well as aid those with great financial need. They are a key to creating a student body that is representative of multiple geographic locations, academic potential and socio-economic backgrounds.
KU provides a variety of scholarships.
KU general scholarships support incoming freshman and students transferring to KU from community colleges. You may create a scholarship to support a particular type of student, including targeting your assistance to help those from a specific geographic area or to high-achieving students or those who meet some other criteria. These scholarships may be renewable or only for one year of study.
School or department-specific scholarships benefit students in KU’s 14 schools, dozens of departments, activities or other programs, such as Study Abroad and the debate team. You can specify the program or area you want to support with your gift and designate the type of students the scholarships will assist, such as incoming freshmen or junior and seniors.
Scholarships for residents of scholarship halls assist students living in one of KU’s 11 cooperative living residences for academically talented students.
You also can be the difference in the lives scholarship hall residents by providing financial support for technology upgrades, facility renovations and programming.
With a gift of $5,000, you can create an expendable scholarship fund that will provide immediate resources. You also may establish an endowed scholarship fund with a gift of $30,000 in most cases. Endowed funds provide support for scholarships in perpetuity for generations of students. The funds can be named for you or for someone you wish to honor.
Giving is not restricted to those levels. Donations of any size can make a difference. Gifts can be designated for existing scholarship funds, helping them accumulate substantial scholarship resources for the university over time.
