Since its opening in 1978, the Spencer Museum of Art has served students, art patrons and researchers with outstanding works of art, programs and publications. The Spencer strives to be an exciting, interactive regional resource for dialogue and exploration of the arts.
The collections of the Spencer, together with the resources of the Murphy Library of Art and Architecture and the Kress Department of Art History, are a treasure for the region. The Spencer houses almost 36,000 works. Artists represented in the museum's collections include Monet, Rembrandt, Goya, Durer, O’Keeffe, Gauguin, Sargent and Whistler. The collection also contains major examples of Kansas art – including paintings, sculpture, ceramics, quilts, prints and photographs – that document both the history and the creativity of the state.
Every gift, small and large, makes a difference. A series of small gifts over time can grow into major support for student research, a children’s art program or a new exhibit.
Major gifts make a substantial impact upon the Spencer. These include large outright gifts that can be spent immediately, as well as endowed funds, which are invested to provide financial support in perpetuity. Endowed funds can be named for you or for someone you wish to honor.
Our development director will be happy to answer your questions or assist you in creating an endowed fund, developing a planned gift or making another kind of gift.
