KU Endowment board elects five new trustees
LAWRENCE, Kan. — The KU Endowment Board of Trustees elected five new trustees at its 117th annual meeting on Friday, Oct. 24.
Lydia I. Beebe, of San Francisco, graduated from KU in 1974 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and in 1977 with a juris doctorate. She also holds an MBA from Golden Gate University. She is corporate secretary and chief governance officer at Chevron Corp. in San Ramon, Calif.
David M. Carr, of Wellington, Kan., graduated from KU in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and also earned an MBA from the University of Chicago School of Business in 1978. He is president of First Financial Corp. in Wellington and a member of the board of directors of the Caldwell State Bank in Caldwell, Kan.
Linda Zarda Cook, of the Netherlands, graduated from KU with a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering in 1980. She is an executive director on the board of Royal Dutch Shell PLC. She also serves on the board of directors of The Boeing Company.
Tyrone C. Means, of Montgomery, Ala., graduated from Morehouse College in 1974 and earned a juris doctorate from KU in 1976. He is managing partner of Thomas, Means, Gillis & Seay, P.C., in Montgomery. He serves as general counsel and board member for the Washington, D.C., Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation.
Dr. Charles E. Rhoades, of Mission Hills, Kan., came to KU as a Summerfield Scholar and graduated with a bachelor of general studies degree in 1975 and a medical degree in 1978. He has been chief executive officer of the Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute in Leawood since 1998 and president of the Dickson-Diveley Orthopaedic Clinic since 1988.
The KU Endowment board comprises up to 75 trustees who represent and support KU around the country. The board meets annually on one of KU’s four campuses. Board members’ duties include setting policy on fundraising and asset management, and serving on committees that provide recommendations for KU Endowment programs and activities. Board members receive no compensation for their services.
KU Endowment is the independent, nonprofit organization serving as the official fundraising and fund-management foundation for KU. Founded in 1891, KU Endowment is the first foundation of its kind at a U.S. public university.
