A University of Kansas School of Nursing alumna and her husband have celebrated the school's centennial by establishing KU nursing's first endowed professorship.
The Christine A. Hartley Centennial Professorship was created through a $500,000 gift from Christine Hartley, a 1973 alumna of the school, and her husband, Ross, a 1974 graduate of KU Law. The Hartleys live in Teton Village, Wyo.
Christine Hartley said she wanted to do something special to mark the school's 100th year.
"The timing was right, and this is an important need for the school," she said. "Ross and I felt this would be a great way to give back to an institution that has enriched so many lives."
The Hartley professorship will have an emphasis in organizational leadership. The new position will help the school meet the increasing demand for nurses.
The search for the new Hartley professor is underway.
