KU Awards $8 Million in Scholarships

The University of Kansas has awarded $8 million in privately funded scholarships to students in fall 2005.

The $8 million supported 7,200 need- and merit-based scholarships awarded to 4,900 students on KU’s campuses in Lawrence, Kansas City, Kan., Overland Park, Kan., and Wichita. Many students receive more than one scholarship. The total does not reflect scholarships for the spring 2006 semester.

The amount of support for need- and merit-based scholarships increased more than $880,000 from $7.1 million in fall 2004. The $8 million in need- and merit-based scholarships awarded in fall 2005 is a portion of the $11.1 million total in privately funded aid awarded this fall, which included scholarships, graduate fellowships and awards.

Virtually all scholarships awarded by KU are supported through private contributions to KU Endowment. KU Endowment, an independent, nonprofit fund-raising and fund-management organization, administers the scholarship funds.
