Campanile compendium
The committee that chose the memorial project received 17 proposals. They developed four criteria for the project: It should serve a memorial function; it should be unlikely to be provided otherwise; it should serve most students; and it should endure.
Using those four criteria, they selected two proposals, a tower with bells and a winding memorial roadway. The 15 ideas that were not selected were:
